NSW Combat Sports Authority
Members of Boxing ACT who are coaches or boxers and who reside in New South Wales should consider registration with the NSW Combat Sports Authority. This is ESSENTIAL if you plan to corner or compete anywhere in NSW.
Firstly, this does not affect your membership of Boxing ACT. You can stay with us and do not need to transfer membership to Boxing NSW. And the NSW Combat Sports Act does not affect you when taking part in a tournament in Canberra.
Secondly, Boxing ACT cannot insist that boxers or coaches living in NSW be registered with NSW Combat Sports. If you will never compete or corner in NSW then you don’t need to register with Combat Sports. NB Masters Boxers who have previously competed professionally cannot register as an amateur with the NSW CSA . But they can still compete in the ACT.
Boxers aged under 14 who live in NSW cannot register to compete in NSW but can compete in the the ACT if at least 10 years old. But iunless they live in Southern NSW (in which case they may register with Boxing ACT), they must also register with Boxing NSW who will issue a medical record book. Once they turn 14 they will need to register with the NSW Combat Sports Authority if they intend to compete in NSW.
If you don't register with the Combat Sports Authority
If you reside in NSW but do not register with the Combat Sports Authority and later wish to participate in a NSW event, we won’t be able to provide a clearance which means you will not be able to take part in that event.
Since most members are likely to take part in a NSW event at some point, we strongly recommend that NSW-resident boxers aged 14 or more, and NSW-resident coaches, should register with NSW Combat Sports Authority as soon as possible.
NOTE that if a NSW resident attempts to corner or compete at a NSW tournament without being registered with the NSW Combat Sports Authority, they will not be allowed to do so and may be fined by the Authority.
Registration is done online: https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/combatsports/registration
NB The website says you need to access that address from a desktop computer, not a mobile device.
CSA registration is for a three-year period. The CSA registration fee for an amateur boxer is $20, for a coach/second it is $100.
Boxers need to upload the following when first registering with the Combat Sports Authority:
-
A certificate of fitness form completed by a doctor
-
A serological clearance from a doctor or pathology provider issued within the last 28 days
-
100 points of certified identification
-
Passport-type photograph of face (.jpg)
For more information see https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/combatsports/registration/combatants
You can download the certificate of fitness form and the serological clearance form from there.
Coaches must upload the following when first registering with the Combat Sports Authority:
-
Certified identification
-
Passport-type photograph of applicant’s face
-
Evidence of a current First Aid Certificate
When you register you will be sent an email with a link to a CSA multiple-choice exam which you need to complete as well.
For more information see: https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/combatsports/registration/industry
In view of the CSA fee for coaches, we will refund $45 off your Boxing ACT membership fee when you provide us with a copy of your receipt for registration with the Combat Sports Authority
Proving Identification
The CSA website explains how to prove identification. In short however, participants must provide copies of two (2) forms of acceptable identification totalling more than 100 points. These must be certified by a Justice of the Peace, a police officer, or a medical practitioner. Identification must not be expired and should include at least one type of photographic ID, and ID that contains a signature and date of birth.
Referees and Judges
At this stage R&J officials are not needing to register, however the Combat Sports Authority is expected to introduce this in the future.
If you are a boxer
If you are a boxer aged 14 or more and you do register with NSW Combat Sports Authority, they will send you a Medical Record Book to be used at all future tournaments, whether held in NSW or elsewhere. If you already have a Competition Record Book issued by Boxing ACT, you will need to return that blue book to us when you have your new CSA book, so that we can mark the old book as cancelled and return it to you. You must NOT hold two current record books. When you return your Boxing ACT blue book and provide a copy of your receipt from the Combat Sports Authority, we will refund $20 off your Boxing ACT membership fee.
The medical certificate of fitness and the serological clearance certificate that you send to Combat Sports should also be emailed to Boxing ACT (clearances@boxingact.org.au) so that we have your latest information on file for any clearances if you want to compete in a different state.
How to contact Combat Sports
If you need help with anything concerning the NSW Combat Sport Authority, you can call them on 13 13 02 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or email combatsports@sport.nsw.gov.au
You can also email Boxing ACT if you need clarification of anything in this letter.
FINALLY, residents of the ACT do not need to register with the NSW Combat Sports Authority. But any ACT-resident boxer or coach intending to take part in a NSW tournament needs to seek a clearance from Boxing ACT which is forwarded to the NSW authorities.
