Introduction
Boxing Australia's Bronze Coaching Course (formerly known as Level 1 Coaching Course) is a mandatory accreditation for anyone wishing to corner competition boxers in any tournament sanctioned by a Boxing Australia Member Association. The course fee is $250.
- If you reside in the Capital Region (Canberra/Queanbeyan/Yass etc) and are a member of Boxing ACT you can enrol for the course. If you're not yet a member you can join initially as a Non Competing Individual via https://www.boxingact.org.au/registration/
- If you reside in New South Wales and are not associated with an ACT gym, you should enrol in a course run by Boxing Australia New South Wales. If you want to enrol in Boxing ACT's course instead, you must email Boxing Australia New South Wales for a clearance showing you are with a BANSW-affiliated gym. Once received, contact us at admin@boxingact.org.au for assistance registering
Purpose
The Bronze Coaching Course is available to adults (18 and over). It focuses on coaching responsibilities, risk management, and skills and techniques, including correct punching, stepping and defensive moves. The course also covers Boxing Australia's competition rules and tournament procedures.
Pre-requisites
You need to be a member AND have evidence of the following items prior to registering for the course. You will need to attach proof when registering:
- State/Territory issued Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) or Working With Children (WWC) card. Applicants coaching in the ACT should register online at https://mydigitalaccount.force.com/WWVPNDIS/s/. Applications take some time to process so you need to do this well in advance.
- Basic First Aid (statement of attainment containing HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid). Applications to attend this course in the ACT can be made online at https://stjohnact.com.au/available-courses-booking/ or you can enrol with a similar course provider.
- Completion of the Australian Sports Commission's online self-paced "Community Coaching - Essential Skills" course. This can be accessed and completed online for free at https://www.ausport.gov.au/coaching/community/education/community-coaching-essential-skills
and the following modules from Sport Integrity Australia (https://elearning.sportintegrity.gov.au/login/index.php):
- Anti-Doping Fundamentals Course (if previously completed, then you only are required to do the Annual Update)
- Child Safeguarding in Sport Induction
- Competition Manipulation & Sports Betting
Achieving these pre-requisites can be time consuming and MUST be organised well in advance of the course commencement date. You cannot register for or attend the Bronze course unless you have provided proof of completing ALL of the pre-requisites above.
If you choose to be invoiced for this course, you must make payment before the course commences.
Accreditation
Participants assessed as having satisfactorily completed the course will be emailed a Completion Certificate from Boxing Australia. Graduates who are not experienced in boxing coaching are advised to gain practical experience assisting boxing classes under the supervision of an experienced boxing coach accredited by Boxing Australia.
To corner competition boxers in tournaments, accredited coaches must also be a current financial coach member of Boxing ACT or another Boxing Australia Member Association. Once you complete the course, you can upgrade to coach membership online by logging into your Boxing ACT account and choosing "Upgrade"; this involves a fee.
Course graduates will have their names registered with the Boxing Australia Coaching Accreditation Scheme and will receive an emailed certificate of acceditation which is valid for 4 years.
If you need clarification of any of the above, email admin@boxingact.org.au
